conpal LAN Crypt Release v4.2 brings enhanced security and functionality for customers

German-based data protection specialist, conpal GmbH, has released a new version of its flagship product, conpal LAN Crypt. The latest release, v4.2, includes several upgrades that improve the admin functions, enhance security through malware protection, and extend functionality in the area of integration with conpal LAN Crypt 2Go, an on-demand encryption solution.

One of the new features in conpal LAN Crypt Release v4.2 is transparent encryption with password-based keys. The current version provides users with the option to import keys into the central admin that were generated with conpal LAN Crypt 2Go. This version of conpal LAN Crypt includes the ability for security officers to create rules centrally and distribute them to some or all users. Files are transparently encrypted and decrypted as usual on systems with a conpal LAN Crypt client. If a system does not have conpal LAN Crypt installed, encrypted files can still be read using conpal LAN Crypt 2Go, both in-house and with external partners, by using the assigned password.

Conpal has also introduced an import block for unencrypted files on removable media. Admins can now block the import of unencrypted files from removable media, improving protection against malware. This ensures that only files originating from trusted devices within the organization are accessed while potentially dangerous external content is blocked from entering the organization.

Another new feature is easier certificate renewal for multiple users. Administrators now are provided with the flexible option to reassign or renew certificates to multiple users simultaneously in one step.

Admins now also have the option to distribute bypass rules in the user profile as part of the encryption policy. The existing choice to use Group Policy Objects (GPO) for this purpose is still in place.
